CYCLING TO CSONGRÁD AND BEYOND…Hop on your bikes and cycle along the bike path on the Tisza embankment to the neighbouring town of Csongrád, where you can bask together on the vast sandbank in the Körös estuary. Let’s have some fried bream with a glass of local wine, then, leaving the thatched fishermen’s huts behind, cross the Tisza via the famous pontoon bridge and explore the ruins of the former Ellés Monastery in the floodplain, whilst listening to the ‘legend of the black man’.
MINDSZENT CYCLING CIRCUIT…Throughout our journey, one can admire the mysterious gloom of the floodplain forests or the endless expanse of the Great Plain from the tarmac road running almost entirely along the crest of the embankment, and just like the poet, our eagle-like spirits may be set free from their prison. We cross the Tisza twice; first we look down on it from the height of the road bridge, then at Mindszent we can cross it by ferry. Warning: this tour contains soul-soothing elements!
ROWING ON THE KURCA…Just a few hundred metres away from the Dózsa House, practically on the stretch of the Kurca below the town, you can encounter sunbathing turtles, grass snakes, grey herons and egrets if you decide to explore the magical world of the waters and reed beds by canoe. The more experienced can paddle all the way to Szegvár to admire the castle from the water, where it is said that Sándor Rózsa once terrorised the lords at their parties.
