Szentes and its surrounding area are a true angler’s paradise. The unique fish stocks of the Tisza, Körös, Kórógy, Veker and Kurca rivers await fishing enthusiasts. In addition, there are numerous fishing lakes in Szentes and the surrounding area, for example in Szegvár, Eperjes and Derekegyház. The rivers are popular fishing spots, and on the Szentes section, the Gerecz Elemér Sport Fishing Association supervises the fish stocks. In addition to the Tisza and Körös rivers, which are the largest water bodies, the association manages Lake Gerecz (6 hectares), Lake Pankotai and Lake Zsoldos (5 hectares), the Veker Stream (2 hectares), the Kommun Canal (0.75 hectares), and the Kurca Canal with 70 hectares. The most common fish species are carp, zander, catfish, pike, grass carp, crucian carp and bream. The sites can be visited during the designated fishing season with a valid local permit or day ticket, but advance booking is required in some places.
